- Sound clips and VistaHi,
I designed a website for a friend of mine. He's recently upgraded to
Windows Vista and now the sound clip links on the page below won't work:
http://www.theswingingbass.co.uk/repertoire.htm
I too have also recently upgraded to Vista and the sound clips work fine on
my system.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

- "File Upload" Tool, avoiding password and filtering file types2 questions...
with the File Upload tool, when you submit a file to upload after selecting
it, you always get a login screen that the server i guess makes come up. is
there any way around that through FP? Im looking on my server settings and
dont see anything that would work in my advantage.
Also, is there any way in the File Upload settings that can filter out what
file types to display with the browse window. for example, if i want it for
uploading Jpegs, can i have the browse window only display by default the JPG
files for selecting to upload?

- Click CounterDoes anyone know how to create a click counter in fromtpage 2003. i want to
keep track of number of files downoaded from my site?

- Form send me an emailWhen a user fills in a form on a page, I correctly get an email with the
contents of the form.
Howvere, if I don't want to use the FP extensions, is there a way for the
form to still send me an email?

- FTP vs http transfer. Shared Border contI was advised by my ISP to change from WSFTP to http
transfer to a newly enabled FrontPg extension server. I
have had an ongoing prob with Shared Borders and wanted
to try transfering my website using FrontPg "Publish"
which I did on 7/19 with no shared borders. On 7/20 I
got Shared borders to work without grief and transferred
the entire site again. What published was index with
both old and new shared borders and navigation buttons
each working for the 7/19 & 7/20 sites. Cute.
I e'd my ISP and was told that they can't separate the
two and they may have to clear the directory. In the mean
time Shared borders was making pages disappear after edit
and save so I didn't use shared borders and emptied the
border file and transferred again. At least there was
now one site...but the OLD one not the edited one. I
edited something on each htm. pg and transferred again
7/23. No updates were seen again. So I am currently
awaiting the directory to be cleared by ISP.
I can't be having ISP clear the direrctory for every
edit. What do you suggest? Is there another program to
http transfer to FP extension servers? I really liked
the choice of FTP exactly what is needed and deleting the
old. That is the first problem.
The Shared Border problem was never resolved. I tried
your advice of 6/28/04 2:35PM doing what was advised in
Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 298827. When I
arrived at the final folders, what was in them did not
match the advise and I wouldn't delete that reistry. Any
other advise?
Thanks for your help,
Mary Beth

- Text When Bookmark SIteCurrently if you are on the main page of my site and you select bookmark or add to favourites, it saves the page with the text "Currently Under Construction".
Back when I started the site, my initial page, it started as a blank page that said Currently under construciton but that page is long gone. How can I change FrontPage 2002 so when my friends and Family bookmark, it says the url or site name?
Thanks

- Can't publish any site to any serverRecently I am unable to publish any of my several sites
(all have been up and running for at least a year or
more, so they are not new.) They are located on 4-5
different unrelated servers using 4 different hosts.
I am running FP 2003 and have been since Jan 2004. MS
tech support claims the server extensions on all the
servers, for at least 12 sites in all, must be running FP
2000 extensions and not the 2002 version needed for FP
2003.
Anyone have an idea why all of a sudden I would
experience this problem. The error message I get is the
one that says the server appears to not have FP
exentions/SharePoint services installed.... I get the
same error when attempting to publish from one of my
other PCs running FP 2002 - so I've pretty much outruled
that explanation.
Tech support did send me a patch for FP 2002 exentions,
regarding a security flaw that could cause a temporary
denial-of-service - in which I've used to no avail. Hear
of this patch/denial-of-service flaw for FP?
Thanks much to all
Pam

- how do I open a video in a frame?I am trying to link to a video file and open it in another frame. When I
select the target frame it seems to work for normal links but for videos it
automatically opens its own window and seems to ignore the fact I selected a
target frame. I have tried with several types of players so I assume there is
either a setting on my browser or in FP. Please help. Cheers!

- Pictures are too largeWhen I'm creating my web page at home the images are a "normal" size,
but when I look at my site on a different computer, they appear much
larger. I'm assuming this is because of the specific computer settings.
Is there any way to fix this, so that the pictures are always the same
size on every computer? If not, what settings best represents the
average computer screen, so I can adjust mine?
Thanks!

- Silly question from beginner!Hi,
I have only just started designing a web and have only played around with
FP.
I read a lot of the posts on here but see that alot of people are using
different versions of FP.
My problem is that I dont know which version I am using!
My FP came with Office XP. How can I tell which version I am using? Also is
there any other news groups that would be better suited to my beginner
status?!!
Thanks in advance.

frontpage on the taskbar or on my screen. But if i open
the task manager, it says frontpg.exe is running and its
using 80-90% of my cpu. It's as if frontpage freezes
while loading. I've uninstalled office and installed it

appreciated.

- A mailto address hanging around in HTML viewFrontPage 2000 - Office 2000 SP3
During cleanup, I have just passed everyone of my 160 pages through
hyperlink view to pick up some little anomaly that might be missed by other
checking. I found on my site map my live email hyperlink. I previously had
been using my 'hot' email address on the web, but thought I had removed them
all cleanly with the following routine, but one is still there.
I have a page called contact.htm in which is a 'picture' of my email address
text so that robots will not be picking up my email address. Also on that
page are contact instructions for submitters who would like to submit
material for the web to open their email program and type my 'email
picture' in real text directly into the address line. (no problem - they are
family).
In the bottom shared border (all pages) that same picture is there, so when
it gets clicked they get the contact page. On a couple of special pages, I
underline a specific word and hyperlink it to the contact.htm page.
My problem is that the reference to my live address hyperlink is still
hanging around in the HTML view on only one page, even after I have deleted
it, saved the pages and re-linked to the contact page. How can I get it out
without making a mess? Here is the paragraph:
<p style="margin-top: 6; margin-bottom: 0"><font size="2" face="Arial">We <a
href="contact.htm"> invite</a> family members and allied families to
contribute to this collection. Submissions should include stories you know
about your family in "the olden days" or original short stories
or essays. <a
href="mailto:email***@***.com"><br></a></font></p>
(in HTML view, there is no underlining under the text that has turned blue
in this message)

- Multiple domain re-direction?I own several different domains for my business due to
contractual agreements not allowing me to treat all my
resturants as the same business... Long story...
Anyway, I have all these domains registered to the same
site (IP) and was wondering if there anyway in FrontPage
to automatcally send people to the correct site, i.e.:
www.domain1.com would go to site 1, www.domain2.com would
go to site 2, etc...
Right now I'm doing it in ASP with a default.asp using the
Request.ServerVariables("HTTP_Host"), but using this
method prevents me from using FrontPage...
Does that even make sense?

I'm creating an Access database for a website and I'm in process of making a table. I'm creating an availability schedule where members (around 80) would state if they are available on pre-determined nights.(2 months worth of dates) My table could either consist of 80 records (one for each member) and each record would have 60 fields (one field for each date); or could write to database for each date person's available on separate record therefore table would have two fields, one name and one date field, but would have approx 60 records for each person (80 people) for a total of around 4800 records.
I'm wondering if one method is alot more efficient than the other?

frontpage-client, Navigation bars now showing up after Publishing to HD
I need to download my website to my hard drive and have used the Publish
feature to try and get all of the nav bars included. Unfortunately, it
doesn't seem to work. Instead, I get a message that says "Edit the
properties for this Navigation Bar to display hyperlinks here" in the exact
location of where my images (Nav Bar) appears. Any advice would be
appreciated...

When the site was first put on the remote server, were the FP extensions installed at the time, and
the site published to the server via FP's http mode, and you are currently opening the site directly
in FP, and then using File Menu | Publish Web / Site to get it onto your HD?
And if you are currently using FP2003, Make sure that you have Navigation and Shared Borders enabled
for the site under Tools | Page Options | Authoring

The FP extensions were not installed originally and were enabled just a few
days ago (to try and help me solve this). Maybe that's the problem.
Otherwise, I'm doing exactly what you outlined in the message.

Ok, since you just had the FP extensions installed, there is no FP site configuration info available
in the web for you to publish back to your machine, since the extensions were not available at the
time the site was original published.
You have to rebuild your navigation structure, re-apply themes, etc. then you will need to do a
full/complete publish overwriting all files on the server the first time you re-publish.

I feel like it's "user error" at this point so I just tried a copy and paste
approach to my navigational images/links and it worked! I'm now back on
track and I appreciate the help. Now that I've found this group, I will be
coming back again to learn much more (and hopefully not do stuff like this in
the future).

- Frontpage Include ProblemI just created a new website with frontpage 2002, and use
the Insert > Web Component > Included Content > Page
feature several times. I have used SSI before, but I am
trying to make the switch to frontpage and was hoping this
includes method would accomplish the same thing as SSI.
Everything looks fine when I view it on my computer (even
when I hit the "preview" tab in the lower left). However,
I "publish the web" using frontpage like I've been told,
but none of the included pages appear when they are viewed
online.
You can check the page (and my code) at
http://groups.colgate.edu/rugbymen/ . I am pretty certain
that there are no typos or bad links to the files or
anything. To see what the site is SUPPOSED to look like,
take a look at this screenshot I took from previewing it
in frontpage:
http://groups.colgate.edu/rugbymen/images/newsitepic.jpg .
If this is a problem with my host, what should I ask them
to do/install so that the pages will work? And since it's
a university host and they probably won't help me, what
can I do differently on my own to get it to work? If I try
SSI, I won't be able to view any of the code in frontpage.
I've been asking around some other forums and people were
a bit confused by why I had an include in the header, so I
moved it to the body but it didn't make any difference. I
also realized that I was missing an opening body tag, but
I put one in and that didn't make any difference either.
Any help is much appreciated... thanks in advance.

- Frontpage layout tablesHello,
I really want to make a page where I have an index bar on the left which
doesn't move or scroll with the rest of the page when it moves. Any ideas? I
am very reluctant to try frames as I have heard they have compatibility
issues. Any advice would be great.
Cheers

- Can't Scroll on a FrameSet Type WebsiteI have a frameset website that does not display correctly because the frame
is not split correctly. I want the frames to be adjustable by the user,
with scroll bars.
I set the frames to display scroll bars, but it is not doing that. Can
someone tell me what might be missing in the code (that is somehow not
getting inserted).

- E-mail newsletterHi ... I'm new to this. Can anyone explain how to convert a simple
FrontPage web page into an e-mail newsletter? I did try the procedure
where you choose File, Send, but have a problem with photos not
appearing. It says my current settings prohibit Active X from running.
How do I change these setting? Anyone able to help?

- Editing a pageI made the mistake of deleting my webpage from my
computer. Now I edit it live. When I the page comes up
in the normal view it does not show all of the "marked up
HTML" items on that page so I can't place new or delete
old items because I can't see them. Is there a way to
fix this? Thanks, Glenn

- Seach Results Page Does Not WorkI have created a Seach Results Page using the specfic
template found in FP2002. It creates the page ok. Having
published it to my hosted web, when I submit searches,
the browsers says it cannot find the file -
domainname/_vti_script/searchpagename.htm0.idq. What is
this that it is trying to find? Surely FP should have
created any additional folders and files it neeeded and
published them too?
